Description

Family: Testudo hermanni
Origin: Mediterranean
Size: Ranging up to 2cm-28cm, depending on age and husbandry
Diet: Herbivore
Water: A shallow dish should be made available at all times for bathing.
Terrarium: Use of a tortoise table is preferred
Substrate: Provide a good mixture to allow choice
Decoration: Rocks, with a range of surfaces, be careful in use of concrete as this can wear down the shell if they constantly rub against it.
Lighting: UV lighting must be provided for good bone growth
Temperatures:They are able to cope with moderate temperatures, however will tend to go to sleep as the temperature drops, they will also stop eating. If the temperature is not corrected they will die.
Compatibility: They caan be kept together when smaller, but males will become more dominant, and chase others around the pen.
Sexing: able to be done at an older age
